Betting Guides
These guides cover the concepts underneath every prediction on Statlign: what a price actually says about probability, what value means once the bookmaker margin is removed, how staking arithmetic decides whether an edge survives variance, and what each market is really asking you to predict. They are written in plain English and reference no specific fixture, so they stay useful long after today's matches are settled.
Start with odds and probability
Almost every avoidable betting mistake starts with misreading a price. Odds of 2.50 imply roughly a 40% chance before margin, which means a selection at that price is expected to lose more often than it wins — and losing six times in ten is the plan working, not the plan failing. Our odds guides show how to convert prices to probability in either direction, and how to strip out the margin so two bookmakers can be compared honestly.
Then value, then staking
Value is the only reason to place a bet: the price must be longer than the true probability deserves. A high-confidence selection at a short price can be a poor bet, and a 30% shot can be an excellent one. Once you can identify value, staking decides whether it ever reaches your balance — which is why the bankroll guide covers flat stakes, fractional Kelly and the specific arithmetic that makes chasing losses mathematically self-defeating.
Market-by-market explanations
Over and under goals, both teams to score, double chance, draw no bet, correct score, half-time markets and accumulators each carry a different risk profile and reward a different kind of evidence. Each guide explains what the market pays, how often it lands, which signals genuinely predict it, and the common trap that costs readers money on it.
How to use these with the predictions
Read the guide for a market before following a selection in it. Statlign publishes probabilities and reasoning, not certainties, and the guides are what let you judge whether our argument still holds after the price has moved. Nothing here is financial advice, and none of it makes betting a reliable source of income.
